Chestnut

This species prefers cool places with deep soils in mountainous areas with some humidity throughout the year and non-extreme climates, that is, it endures badly the Mediterranean summer drought and the intense frosts of winter. Chestnut was believed to originate from the Caucasian, Balkan, and Asia Minor regions. In the Peninsula it is more abundant in the North and Northwest, but there are excellent stands to the South.
